Meet the Bridal Party

The Bride and Groom

Paul James Miller and Diana Elizabeth Arnold

Get to know the Bride

Diana was born to Dora Marie Arnold and George William Arnold in Red Bank, NJ on April 10, 1985.

She was raised in Holmdel, NJ with her older sister, Julie Arnold Shah. She wanted to be an opera singer for the first 10 years of her life(this made for some priceless home videos). As she got older, she realized that she was really interested in science/medicine. Diana's mom was diagnosed with cancer shortly after her 11th birthday. She put up a good fight before passing away on April 11, 2002. Paul's love and support helped Diana through these tough times. Diana's mom met Paul before she passed and told her relatives that she thought Paul was a great guy (obviously, Diana has taken this to heart). Diana went to Columbia for college and her relationship with Paul continued to develop as she majored in Biomedical Engineering and set her sights on a medical career. Diana is working for a year in clinical research at the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center and will be starting medical school in August after the wedding as Dr. Miller! :)

Left to Right: Dora, Diana, Julie

Get to know the Groom

Paul was born to James and Gail Miller in Pittsford, NY on November 22, 1979.

He was raised with his little sister, Sara Miller Folk. He was very active in sports and played lots of baseball and football (when he wasn't doing this- he was golfing at Oak Hill). Paul followed the lead of Grandpa Miller and decided to attend the Naval Academy for his undergraduate education. He spent several years serving as an officer in the Navy. During his time in the Navy, Paul's Dad passed away unexpectedly. Diana's love and support helped him through the loss of his Dad and brought them closer together.  After serving, Paul went on to join the ranks of many Miller's who worked at Xerox. He moved up to NYC when Diana was in her sophmore year of college and has been working there ever since. Currently, he is working on his MBA part-time at Fordham and plans for a successful career in business. Diana and Paul have recently made the move back to NJ where they purchased their first home ( a condo on the water overlooking NYC) in Jersey City!

The Proposal

The Date:

March 28, 2007

How it happened:

Paul asked Grandma Lola, Diana's 99-yr old grandmother, to be an accomplise in his proposal. Grandma called Diana up two nights before the day Paul proposed and asked her to come over for dinner because "she was so lonely." Diana never said no to Grandma for dinner throughout all four years of college. So, even though she was swamped with work, she went over in her usual non-glamorous engineering fashion--jeans and a t-shirt. Diana was greeted at the door by a frantic Grandma Lola doing her typical song and dance about how Diana was late and how the food was burnt. She told Diana to hurry up and go wash her hands in the back. As she passed through the living room, she noticed that there were three place settings for dinner. Diana momentarily freaked out because she assumed Grandma knew that Paul couldn't make it for dinner and didn't want to hear Grandma complain about slaving in the kitchen for Paul when he wasn't there. Diana reached for her cell phone while walking and started to call Paul. Her jaw dropped as she got to the back room to wash up because she was calling Paul, but Paul was standing in front of her! Her face went from suprise to confusion. Then before Diana could ask what was going on, Paul pulled out a little black box and got down on one knee. He said very sweetly, "Diana, Will you marry me?" as he opened the box. Diana started to cry and say "YES! Of course! yes yes yes- Oh my god thats gorgeouuusss!!" and gave him a kiss as tears streamed down her face. They tried calling a bunch of relatives but couldn't reach anyone! Grandma Lola yelled that the food was getting cold- so they took calls as they ate a delicious Veal Schnitzel that Grandma made and a glass of Austrian wine (well, Paul had 1.95 glasses because Diana took her two sips and gave her glass to Paul as usual). (FYI-They kept the bottle which now sits on their window sill in Jersey City next to a plant).

Later that night they went back to Columbia and shared the great news with a stream of Columbia friends who wanted to "see" the new evidence of their engagement.
